A photograph in a book

A few years ago, I bought three old books at a flea market. I had never heard of any of them but I just loved them, for how old and rugged they looked. I was not planning on reading them, but I thought they might make for nice decoration some day. And the fact that they were American books from the 1950s that I found at a flea market in Germany fifty to sixty years later just added to their charm.

Old books

I just moved to my new apartment last week, and while I was unpacking my books, I flipped through one of them, The Infinite Woman by Edison Marshall, when I discovered a photograph hidden in the book.

Old photo

What a great find, huh? I find it absolutely fascinating to find a picture in an old book, not knowing the story behind it. Where was the picture taken? Who is the boy in the picture? Who took it? Who kept this picture in a book? And how did it make its way to Germany? The back of the photo tells us a little more about its origin.

Back of old photo

Somehow a picture from Meridian, Mississippi, taken in 1957 (?) made it to a small flea market in the Munich suburb I grew up in fifty years later where I happened to buy the book it was tucked into. I would just love to know the story of this 50+ year old picture that traveled halfway around the world before it came into my possession.

What could be the story of this picture? Have you made any finds like this?
